When is it Time to Go to Counselling?

Often it can be difficult to know when it’s time to seek counselling, but here are some signs that may indicate it’s time to reach out for help:

You are struggling to cope with your emotions and feeling overwhelmed. If you are feeling anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, or your ability to function is impaired or impacting your daily life and your relationships, counselling can help.

You are experiencing a variety of relationship problems and conflict resolution issues. If you are having difficulties in your relationship, such as frequent or reoccurring arguments, lack of communication, a break-down of trust and/or infidelity, counselling can help you and your partner to address and work through these issues while rebuilding trust and intimacy.

You have experienced a traumatic event. A natural disaster, accident, assault, witnessing a death or threat of death can be traumatic. Counselling help you to process your emotions and develop important life lasting coping strategies.

You are dealing with a major life change. If you have lost a close family member, partner or child, you can be dealing with paralyzing grief. Or when you are facing a major life transition, such as a divorce, job loss, or move to a new city/country, counselling can help you to navigate the challenges these transitions may bring.

You are experiencing physical symptoms with no apparent medical cause. Experiencing physical symptoms, such as headaches, stomach-aches, or fatigue, with no apparent physiological medical cause, counselling can address the underlying factors that may be contributing to your addictions and other mental health issues.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, dealing with a major life change, experiencing difficulty with your relationships, or you are experiencing challenges that are impacting your daily life, it may be come to seek counseling. A counsellor can provide you with the support and tools you need to work through these challenges and transform to a place of positive mental health.
